Could you live on $2 a day?
Math AIG students use decimals with a lesson on the challenges of living on less than $2.00 per day. Students viewed and discussed data and statistics from The World Food Programme. They saw how more than half the population of the world lives on less than $2 per day.
Students worked in small groups in a simulation activity of being from a developing country and budgeting their $5.00 weekly income on items such as rice, bus fares, and medicine. They also discovered the challenging cost of sending their children to school. In the end, they gathered grains of rice to help end world hunger at Freerice.com.
