PWMS Students Attend Annual Discover China Day Event
PWMS Mandarin Chinese students had the chance to visit “Discover China” Day at Marvin Ridge on Friday, February 13th. For these students, who just began the class at the beginning of the second semester, it was an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the Chinese culture.
“Discover China” day has become a UCPS yearly event that students look forward to. The day’s itinerary exposes students to multiple facets of the Chinese culture, including calligraphy, the art of tea-making, and Chinese Dance.
Many of the students stated that they enjoyed practicing calligraphy. Dylan Hampton, a 7th grader, stated, “I liked the calligraphy most because I enjoy drawing and art, but I don’t really do it often, so it was a good experience.”
Discover China Day is all about exposing students to new experiences. For example, students participated in a tea-tasting. Ashlan Young was surprised to learn that when brewing the tea, “…they put flowers in it.” Cori Sutton said, “I liked the tea because it was very unique.”
Overall, Discover China day added a new dimension to PWMS students’ study of the Mandarin language. We hope it has inspired them to continue their study and to someday visit the country and experience it first-hand.
