Open Mic Night at the 3rd Annual WUES Poetry Cafe
On January 29th, 2015 the Western Union Media Center was transformed into a groovy Open Mic Night for 3rd grade to host their 3rd annual Poetry slam.
Students from all five 3rd grade classes participated in an amazing creative show by reading their original works of poetry.
Students worked for several weeks researching and trying out different styles of poetry. We studied mentor poets and immersed ourselves in the world of written rhyme and motion.
Students drafted free verse, shape poems and other types of creative writing. Each student worked to revise, edit and illustrate their original works.
As the night started students from each of the classes came up on stage took hold of the mic and read their poems.
While some were presenting others enjoyed dozens of sweet treats and some of the best hot chocolate on this side of Waxhaw!
It was a fun evening of celebration and sharing. The students and their families enjoyed the poems as well as the time to visit with the newly published poets.
