First Graders Give a Global Garden
Antioch Elementary School first graders participated in a global project to help families in need. During their study of plants the students learned about the needs of plants, how to grow plants, and the importance of plants in the world. They also participated in several classroom activities that were centered around the book The Good Garden written by Katie Smith Milway. Their global project extended their learning to the world around them.
For the second year in a row the first grade partnered with World Vision. Donations made to the organization are used to provide seeds and tools to farmers in third world countries. The seeds and tools help these farmers raise enough food to feed their families as well as bring in income to pay for medicines or to send children to school.
The first graders raised a total of $241.00 for World Vision, enough to help 14 farmers and their families.
