PR senior receives John H. Crowder Service Award
Porter Ridge senior, Taylor West, received the John H. Crowder Service Award at the February meeting of the Union County Board of Education. Crowder was the longest-serving Board of Education member when he passed away on March 9, 2014. To continue his legacy of helping children and to keep his memory alive, the Board of Education created this award.
The award recognizes students who make a difference in the community. In order to win this award, students must be passing all of their classes, have no discipline problems, and have a history of community service.
Taylor West, the recipient of this award, commented, “Winning the John H. Crowder Award was completely unexpected! I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to represent the Porter Ridge cluster. It is such a privilege to receive an award that was given to honor longtime board member Mr. John H Crowder, who was a very active participant in his community. I have been blessed to have the unfailing support of my community, friends, as well as family. I believe that everyone has the ability to have a positive impact on their community, regardless of age, gender, or economic status. Thank you so much, and I hope to continue serving my community wherever the future may lead."
