Public Speaking May Take Kids Places!

Third-grade students, Chris Billotto, Jaden Reddick, Caden Reddick and Brandon Bussey, proudly show certificates and medals for their debut efforts in public speaking.

Parents and teachers from Union Elementary join to cheer on 21st Century Community Learning Center students as they make their first attempts at Public Speaking! For several weeks, Ms. Crystal Starkes, Program Assistant for Union County 4-H, has worked with Union Elementary students and staff members to teach the public speaking process from choosing a topic to delivering the speech.

One 4th grade student, Sara Suggs was asked to compete in the Union County 4-H Public Speaking Contest to be held on April 2 at the Ag Center in Wingate. Her topic was “Venomous and Non-venomous Snakes."

The collaboration between Union County 4-H and 21st CCLC has made it possible for students from six schools to gain public speaking experience. East, Rock Rest, Union, and Wingate elementary schools, along with East Union and Monroe middle schools are members of the UCPS 21st CCLC.
