PRMS Partners with South Korea in Global Awareness Campaign
In early November 2014, the Porter Ridge Middle School (PRMS) Global Committee set out to partner our students with another classroom internationally. After exchanging a few ideas with several groups, we decided that a cultural box exchange would be meaningful. Our first partnership is with middle school students at Icheon Global Peace Village in South Korea.
The goal of this project is to educate students at PRMS about an unfamiliar culture in another region of the world and require students to think critically about their own culture, allowing them to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for their own heritage.
After either composing, creating or collecting these items students mail their projects to the sister school. After several months and a few logistical hurdles with mailing systems procedures, our box has arrived.
Students at PRMS are now able to explore the Korean culture from the perspective of students their own age while comparing and contrasting the items that we received to the items that we are sending.
The students at Incheon sent over puzzles with drawings on each made by a student. Large poster sized art works, and a guidebook created by students about food, pop culture and demographic information. We will mail our box at the end of March.
