Hoops for Heart 2015
The East Union PE department conducted their annual fundraiser during Physical Education classes the week of March 9-13th. This week was strategically picked to coincide with “March Madness” and the ACC tournament in particular. In an effort to raise money, the students participated in this fundraiser for the American Heart Association by competing in a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, 3 point shootouts, soccer skills challenges and dance competitions as well. The students were undoubtedly very engaged into the fundraiser and a majority of the students did contribute monetarily to the American Heart Association, which does research on heart disease and other heart related conditions, which taught them a great lesson on giving back to the community.
The PE department and fellow staff members were instrumental in helping the week go as smoothly as it did and as a result we at EUMS raised $2,009. This is a record for us and surpassed our previous high total by almost $500! The PE teachers were blown away by the amount of participation and level of enthusiasm amongst the kids. The most popular skills contest of the week was by far the 3 point contest, and we had some incredible shooting take place during these skills challenges. The basketball tournament was very entertaining as well and went off great with a couple of exciting championship games. The East Union PE department feels truly blessed to put on such a worthwhile event for a great cause and we look forward to this week on the calendar every single year! Great job Eagles!
