Wingate Hosts Spanish Speaking Parent Night
On Tuesday, March 3, 2015, Spanish families of Wingate Elementary listened to Mrs. Roz Brown speak about some very important upcoming dates for students of Wingate. Some of the event information presented was about the following: March 6th Make up School Day, March 9th PTO Meeting 6:45-7:45, and March 27th PTO Movie Night.
Mrs. Brown answered parent’s questions regarding these events as well as other questions they had regarding the education of their child. Parents were then put into groups based on grade levels. The parents were presented with information from each grade level representative informing parents about areas of homework, extra practice that could be done at home to help their child in preparation for the upcoming EOG test, as well as to answer any other questions regarding their child. One area addressed was the importance for the students to be completing homework since this is extra practice to reinforce the skills and concepts that have already been taught. Teachers advised parents on websites their child could benefit from in regards to Math and Science for grades 3-5. Questions such as homework help, and “How does my child get into the AIG program?” were addressed. At the end of the meeting, all parents were communicating with the teachers, and were at ease with the answers they were given. Parents helped themselves to snacks, and socialized among themselves along with staff.
