21st CCLC Students See The Invisible Loom Large!
Students from East Elementary pose before the urban backdrop of Charlotte as they take a break from exploring what Discovery Place has to offer! East Elementary students joined a total of about 100 21st CCLC students as they trekked through a rainforest, searched for frogs in natural habitats, tried out a bed of nails, and tested every energy and motion hands-on experiment available.
. . . But their favorite delight sprang unexpectedly when swept into a world where the invisible became visible through the magic of time-lapse photography, nanotechnology, and electron microcopy. Students uttered a united gasp in the IMAX Theater as they seemed suspended over a large city before zooming in on “things too small, things too slow and things too fast to see.” And what frightening wee things they saw on our skin!
Discovery Place is just one part of making the world come alive for students at East. Two teachers that accompanied the students on February 28 to Discovery Place, Ms. Ashley Hinson and Ms. Jennifer Wallace, consistently work to make the magic of math, science, technology and engineering part of their students’ future education—and maybe even careers.
