Fred Ingold Music Festival
The 17th annual Fred Ingold Music Festival was held on Thursday, March 19, 2015. The festival was held for all second graders in Union County and was held simultaneously at Forest Hills High School, Marvin Ridge High School, and Porter Ridge High School. The students at Indian Trail Elementary attended the festival at Marvin Ridge High School along with five other elementary schools in the county. The festival addresses the state curriculum objectives for both science (sound) and music for second grade students. Band students from the Marvin Ridge High School band demonstrated their instruments and explained how each instrument made its sound. A student from Western Union Elementary played her violin and explained differences in the violin, viola, cello, and double bass. Mr. Ryder, the music teacher from Waxhaw Elementary, demonstrated his acoustic guitar and the electric guitar. The children loved hearing the electric guitar! The second grade students from all six schools sang the first verse of America. The Marvin Ridge Band performed several music selections that the students recognized. ITES students learned a lot about music instruments and their sounds at the Fred Ingold Music Festival.
