First Graders Love Math!
First graders in Mrs. Neuberth’s class have been learning many new things in Math. They have been building models to show if both sides of an equation are equal on individual balance mats. If both sides are equal, then it is true; if both sides are not equal, then it is false. If false, the students work very hard to make it true by adding or taking away from the operation side of the problem. They do this by using their manipulatives , snap cubes or counters, to build each side. Finally, the children cross out the number they will change in their equation to make it true and make the model match it.
