Emily Schill receives Crowder Service Award

Emily, left, receives the John H. Crowder Service Award.

Weddington High School’s very own Emily Schill received the John H. Crowder Service Award at the April UCPS Board of Education Meeting.

Weddington High Principal, Mr. Jonathan Bowers said, “Emily has proven herself to be a focused, mature, and genuine young woman who possesses a passion for assisting others.”

Emily has devoted significant amounts of her time working with special needs students at Weddington High School and currently serves as a peer tutor for the Transition to Adulthood Program.

Over the past two years, Emily has devoted one day a week volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club of America, and she has gone so far as to organize her own service-learning club at Weddington High called the IMPACT Club.

In addition, Emily has participated in a variety of local and faith-based volunteer initiatives, including Missionaries of the Poor in Monroe and missionary work in Jamaica for the same organization.

Mr. Bowers said that Emily’s commitment to helping those in need should serve as a model for others in our community, and her willingness to place service above self is one of her greatest attributes.

We congratulate you, Emily, for receiving this award.
