Piedmont OM Competes at State Competition
Over the weekend of April 10-11th, the Piedmont Middle School Odyssey of the Mind Pandora’s Box team traveled to Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina to participate in in the State competition. They had placed third in the regional competition in March and a student on the team, Ian York, received a Ranatra Fusca award that gave the team the chance to compete at State.
The students competed against 11 other teams from across North Carolina within their division and problem area, for Piedmont, a retelling of the myth of Pandora's box through the context of a video game. They also completed a spontaneous problem as a part of the competition.
Although Piedmont performed well against their opponents coming in 4th place just a few points shy of 3rd, they were unable to secure a slot at this year's World Competition. Students and families enjoyed spending time together at ASU and in the mountains. Parents and coaches were proud of how they competed and worked through some unusual staging situations. Students were grateful for the chance to compete but sad to see the OM season end as they enjoyed spending time with each other practicing, rehearsing and using their creativity.Students on this year’s OM team included Rachel Phillips (8th), Ian York (7th), Sarah Marcum (7th), Alyson Byrd (7th), Ethan Solomon (7th), Caroline Ogden (6th) and Heather Leis (6th).
