Amazing Run Around the World
The New Salem Amazing Run around the World combined a school-wide fundraiser with global studies. Each grade level represented a continent and each class studied one of the countries on their continent. Students prepared for the fundraiser pep rally by designing country masks in art class. Wearing the masks and waving flags kicked off the Amazing Run as they paraded around the gym and cheered for their country. During the next two weeks, students collected pledges and learned about their country. They decorated their classroom door with facts about their country.
On race day, student T- shirts identified each continent as participants ran the track to raise funds for the school. In the school hallways, classes visited each doorway to read about the different countries. Student passports were used to answer questions that each class posted near their door.
At the end of the day the entire student body gathered on the lawn for a group picture. Arranged by rainbow colors, the result was a display of students revealing our world of differences coming together in a beautiful way. A school wide event with global learning was a winning combination!
