Archived Stories for Union County Public Schools
On Friday, April 24th, UCEC and SPCC students grabbed their passports and travelled to South America for the day! And Europe! And Africa! And Australia! And Asia! In fact, these lucky students travelled to all parts of the world right on campus as they participated in the UCEC/SPCC Multicultural Festival of 2015! For the first time, both campuses collaborated to host this fun and educational event. Both students and teachers worked together to present their diverse cultures and provide an experience for students and the community. In the Salon, there were myriad displays of countries from around the world with gracious natives present to distribute cultural souvenirs or give samples of traditional snacks from their homelands. Throughout the school, teachers and students gave presentations in the cultural expertise they had to offer, from the SPCC English Department’s Haiku presentation to a Brazilian student’s performance of belly dancing, ending in a group dance session, quite a spectacle. We think it’s safe to say all attendees departed this event more culturally aware, whether learning how to shake their hips or taste the zesty goodness that is traditional Mexican candy. UCEC and SPCC made for a great team, and we speak for the entire school when we say we look forward to another year of this great event!
