Three fourth-grade students from Antioch Elementary were recently honored as winners of a local Earth Day/Arbor Day Poetry Contest in April 2015.

Reagan Nelson was a 1st place winner for her poem, “Beautiful”.  Pradhita Voore was a 2nd place winner for her poem, “Nature”, and  Utkarsh Dave was a 3rd place winner for his poem, “Spring”.

All three students said they were surprised and excited to find out they had won a prize for their poetry.  Reagan Nelson said, “I didn’t know Mrs. Simpson was entering our poems in a contest so I couldn’t believe it when I found out I won first prize!”

These students were recognized at the Stallings’ Parks and Recreation Earth Day/ Arbor Day event on April 25th, where they received a certificate of recognition and a gift from the Mayors of both Indian Trail and Stallings.

All three winning poets are students in Mrs. Simpson’s Reading classes.  She said, “I am very proud of all my students’ efforts writing poetry this year.  I am especially proud of these three who won prizes for their poems about the earth and environment.”

The winning poems are published below with permission from the authors.

"Beautiful" by Reagan Nelson

Have a look around the world,

Everything is beautiful!

Have a look at the trees,

Have a look at the seas,

Everything is beautiful!

Have a look at the showers,

Have a look at the flowers,

Everything is beautiful!

Have a look at the sun

Have a look at the people having fun,

Everything is beautiful!

Have a look at the profound love,

Have a look at the pretty dove,

Everything is BEAUTIFUL!

 “Nature” by Pradhita Voore

 The sun so bright

Flowers so light

Nature is everywhere

Butterflies are buzzing

Tremulous leaves

Nature is everywhere

“Spring” by Utkarsh Dave

 Boing, boing, Spring is here

Boing, boing, Spring is here

Rabbits hop

Bees buzz

Hummingbirds hum

Placid rainy days come and go

It’s muddy outside

Let’s play!  Let’s go!
