Air Force JROTC Wins Drill Competition Events

The Parkwood Air Force JROTC proudly pose with some of the trophies they have won at drill competitions this spring.

The Parkwood High School Air Force JROTC cadets have had a successful and busy spring semester. They competed in the Union County JROTC Spring Drill Competition held at the US Army National Guard Armory in Monroe, NC on March 31, 2015. Parkwood was awarded three trophies for their outstanding drill performances. Cadets in the 1st Year Element/Squad, commanded by Cadet Ryan Harms, received 1st place. Cadets in the 1st Year Flight/Platoon and cadets in the Unarmed Flight/Platoon, both commanded by Cadet Austin McIntosh, both received 2nd Place. The competing cadets took an overall 3rd place back to their corps.

On April 23, 2015, the cadets competed in the Union County JROTC Spring Championship Games hosted at Piedmont High School in Monroe, NC. Parkwood cadets competed in six categories: push ups, sit ups, mile run, relay run, tug of war, and volleyball. They received two trophies:1st place for the mile run and and 2nd place in volleyball. Individual awards were received by Cadet Phillip Abernathy, Cadet Andres Alejandro, and Cadet Kaitlyn Laney. In the male portion of the mile run, Cadet Abernathy placed 1st and Cadet Alejandro placed 3rd. In the female portion of the mile run, Cadet Laney placed 2nd. The competing cadets scored an overall 3rd place in the Union County Spring Championship Games.

The Parkwood High School Air Force JROTC cadets then traveled to Carowinds on Saturday, May 2, 2015, where they placed first in the JROTC Drill Competition. Now for the big question… where will they display all of these trophies?
