A Community Spirit of Giving
“No one has ever become poor by giving.” Anne Frank
Students from Mr. Noles’ third grade class lived-up to Frank’s well-known quote by donating 130 cans of food to a local food bank in Union County.
The food collection project began prior to Spring Break in April, and continued into the first week in May. The project was a direct correlation to a Social Studies unit the class completed several weeks before, which had the students learning about local communities and how people can help their community.
Over the month of donations, students brought in an assortment of cans including soup, green beans and a variety of fruit. The food was taken to the Loaves and Fishes of Union County. According to this group’s website over 600,000 pounds of food and nonfood grocery items have been distributed in the past year.
