The Relay for Life in Union County was held at Sun Valley High School on May 1, 2015 from 6pm to midnight.  This annual event allows members of the public to gather together and walk in honor or memory of loved ones who have suffered from cancer. Schools from all over Union County set up booths with games, snacks and raffle sales to make the event family-friendly.

“It’s a somewhat festive atmosphere,” said club advisor Jennifer Abuaita. “Even though you are there to remember someone who may no longer be with us, there is a sense of hope and joy in recalling the person’s life.”

This year, the Cuthbertson High Cavaliers for a Cure Club volunteered at the event by lighting the luminaries that line the track. Each luminary has a person’s name who has passed away from cancer. It is a way for loved ones to remember those who have been lost to the devastating disease.

“The club members did a great job. At night the field really looked beautiful with all those candles lit up!” says Ms. Abuaita.  “It was definitely a moving tribute!”

The club members also walked the track during the memory laps and even performed a few karaoke songs at the Link 107.9 booth to show their school spirit.

Club president Amanda Roselle stated, “We have a great club and were proud to represent Cuthbertson High School at this event.”
