Second Grade Celebrates Writing
Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, The Big Bad Wolf, Rapunzel and Jack and the Beanstalk made an appearance as second graders at WUES recently dressed up as their favorite fairy tale characters! The students dressed up to celebrate writing their own adaptation of a favorite fairy tale.
During reading the students learned that fairy tales usually contain royalty, have a castle as a setting, the concept of "3 or 7", animals that act like people, a theme of good vs. evil, and a happy ending.
Second graders also learned to write their own adaptation of a fairy tale. They put their own "spin" on the story by writing it from the opposing point of view while changing the characters, setting, problem or the lesson learned in the story. Writing their own adaptations and dressing up was so much fun that second graders agree ....Fairy Tales Rock!
