Fourth graders learn to shag!!

The Kensington 4th graders learned how to do Shag Dancing today as a culminating activity for their North Carolina Heritage and Culture Unit. Shag dancing began in the North Carolina and South Carolina Coastal Plain. Shagging as well as clogging are the official dances of North Carolina. The 4th graders learned the basic triple and rock steps as well as a few variations of turns. The boys learned how to be good leaders by tilting their hands and spinning their partners around. Maresa Pettigrew, who is a professional dance instructor and owner of Sports and Fine Arts Center in Indian Trail, volunteered her time to come and help our 4th graders. Thank you Mrs. Pettigrew!
