Shiloh’s Summer Spotlight Series

This time, our “spotlight” will be on Shiloh teacher Mrs. Monica Potts.

Throughout the summer of 2015, Shiloh would like to take the great  opportunity to do small “spotlight”  stories on our wonderful staff members.  Even though school is not in session, we feel that this is a fantastic time to show our thanks and continued appreciation to our dedicated staff members. This time, our “spotlight” will be on Shiloh teacher Mrs. Monica Potts. Please read further to learn more about Mrs. Potts!

-When did you decide you wanted to work in education? I had always enjoyed working with people and especially children, so in high school I decided to be an elementary school teacher.

-What is your role at Shiloh? I was a Teacher Assistant in Kindergarten for 3 years, Teacher Assistant/LLI Tutor for 3 years, and a 5th Grade Teacher for the past 2 years.

-How long have you worked at Shiloh? I started working at Shiloh in July of 2007.

-Can you tell us about a teacher that you had while you were growing up who had a positive influence on you? My favorite teacher was my 8th Grade Math Teacher, Mrs. Harper.  She was an amazing teacher and person.  She really cared about each student academically and personally.

-Where did you go to elementary school? My Dad was a Professional Golfer, so we had to move when there were job openings at Country Clubs.  We moved a lot, so I can’t recall all my school names and exactly every school that I went to.

3rd- Right across the street from Martin’s Landing Apartments near Atlanta, GA

4th- Hixson Elementary School in Hixson, TN

5th-6th Ganns Middle Valley School in Hixson, TN

-What would you like for the students of Shiloh to say about you, say in  10 or 20 years from now?  That I cared about my students academically and personally.

-In your opinion, what is the best thing about the Shiloh community? (Students, staff, parents, etc.) Anyone who has had a positive impact towards Shiloh.

-Can you share anything with us that we may not know about you? I have worked as Physical Therapy Aide, a Home Health Aide, and was accepted to nursing school 2 different times.  I have always been torn between education and the medical field.

-When you are not working at school, what do you like to do? I love to spend time with family, take photos, interact with nature, listen to music, watch movies, read, play games, and travel.

-Please leave us with any final thoughts  that you would like to share.  Since I went to so many schools growing up, I decided that my own children would go to the same elementary, middle, and high schools and that has come true.

Thank you for reading about Mrs. Potts. We thank her for her time with our spotlight series. Who will be featured next? You’ll just have to keep reading and checking our website!
