Donated school supplies to benefit hundreds of students

Boxes filled to overflowing with bookbags, notebooks, pens and pencils were gifted to UCPS students, after being collected by the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the Monroe Library, the Union County Judicial Center, the Union County Government Center, and the Division of Human Services.

Tons of donated school supplies will make the first day of school run much smoother for hundreds of Union County Public Schools students.

The 2015 School Tools Postal Collection collected tons of donated school supplies for students who may not be able to afford them.

Area residents left school supplies at their mailboxes for letter carriers to pick up and deliver to local schools.

This helped hundreds of school children who would have started the school year without any supplies.

It wasn’t just the postal service, however, that got into the act.

Boxes filled to overflowing with such things as bookbags, notebooks, pens and pencils were presented Tuesday (Aug. 18) to UCPS Central Services staff, after being collected by the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the Monroe Library, the Union County Judicial Center, the Union County Government Center, and the Division of Human Services.

All donations benefit students in the county where the supplies are gathered. The supplies donated in Union County will stay in Union.
