First Day Excitement!
With 877 students the first day of school at Rocky River was full of different emotions which included happiness, shyness, excitement, anticipation and nervousness. Although some students said they had been nervous Monday morning yet they were excited to see what they would be doing and to meet new friends. Some said they had hardly slept the night before. A few students came in shy but soon warmed up with smiles as they adjusted to their new class. Teachers were busy making sure that they knew how each child would be getting home.
Students unpacked new supplies from their book bags and many students and staff were seen throughout the day getting these new supplies set up and ready for class use. Many classes took tours of the building to see where things were located. They were learning about rules and procedures in their new classroom and the Leader in Me program.
Students were setting up their problem solving notebooks in many grades. Fourth grade students were busy learning about the carousel protocol and how to have discussions in their collaborative groups and follow the norms. When asked they were able to tell about the carousel protocol in language arts. Second grade students told me how they were learning about reading with different voices and taking charge of their reading/learning. They were taking charge and already getting in the habit of reading books of their own choosing. In AIG class students discussed how you can’t see what everyone is feeling because some feelings are inside and not visible.
Everyone got off to a great start on the first school day of 2015-2016. It was a very successful beginning.
