Union Elementary School Hosts Grand Opening of Parent Resource Center

The Parent Resource Center, located at Union Elementary School, held a grand opening during the school’s Open House on August 21.  The vision for the Parent Resource Center is to offer a location where parents can access community and academic resources and use Internet connectivity. The Center, which was updated this summer with the assistance of the Title I Department, was renovated because research shows that involving families and communities in schools improves academic and social success of children.

Families visited the Grand Opening after meeting their new teachers at Open House.  Parents and children were able to tour the center and several even began checking materials out!

The Parent Resource Center offers a lending library where parents may borrow books and materials.  There are books, DVDs, and pamphlets on various subjects from parenting to discipline, to how to help your child with homework.  In addition, there are many resources to loan, such as:

  • Flash Cards
  • Reading and Literacy Games
  • Math Games
  • Much More

The Center will be open during school hours. Additional hours may be available by request.
