Honoring Those Who Serve at MRHS Football Friday

Student Section on 9-11

On Friday, September 11, the Marvin Ridge High School community came together for an action-packed home football game vs. Providence Day.  The evening was focused on "Honoring Those Who Serve" as we also remembered those who lost their lives in the tragedy of 9-11 fourteen years ago.  All active and retired military, policemen and women, firefighters, and EMTs were admitted free.  MRHS School Resource Officer, Neil Sullivan, served as the Honorary Game Captain.  Sergeant Leonard Allen of the United State Marine Corps participated in the coin toss and a Cub Scout troop from Sandy Ridge presented the colors for the Pledge of Allegiance. The MRHS Advanced Marketing class and MRHS Spirit Club combined efforts to plan components of the evening, which included the return of Marty the Maverick mascot.  The Marvin Ridge Student Section was packed with students showing their American pride wearing red, white and blue in many creative ways.  The halftime show featured the band, dance team, and a special relay race for students.  Senior Cole Baxter was the relay race winner among contestants who contributed winning entries to American trivia contest throughout the week.  The entire school community came together for a great evening, capped off by a victory for the Varsity Football team, marking the first win of the season for the team and first-year head coach, Aubrey Carter.
