Reaching Goals at Waxhaw Elementary
Waxhaw Elementary has several students whose families speak a language other than English at home. Some of these students attend ESL classes. In ESL classes, students work on all four English language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students are engaged in activities that apply content and academic language from the Common Core State Standards.
Every year in February, Waxhaw’s LEP (Limited English Proficient) students take a Language Proficiency Test. Congratulations to Andres Palacios for doing well on the Spring 2015 Access Test; he is now recognized as a fluent English speaker. Andres is a 4th grader in Ms. Peck’s class. To celebrate his accomplishment, Mrs. Warren (English as a Second Language teacher) presented Andres with a Chick-fil-A miniature cow and a free meal that was donated by the Chick-fil-A in Wesley Chapel. Congratulations to Andres for working hard and reaching goals!
