Potential severe weather causes schedule changes for Oct. 2 & 3

All UCPS regional band competitions have been canceled and athletic events have been rescheduled.

Local and national weather reports indicate that storm systems will bring major amounts of rain to our area this weekend. This could result in street flooding and power outages.

With safety as a top priority, Union County Public Schools is canceling all band and athletic activities and events for Friday, Oct. 2 and Saturday, Oct. 3. All regional band competitions have been canceled and athletic events have been rescheduled.

The Union County Public Schools After School Program will operate on a normal schedule. All students should be picked up by 6 p.m.

The SAT testing sessions at Porter Ridge High and Sun Valley High on Oct. 3 will continue as scheduled.

At this time, UCPS has not canceled any Facility Use Agreements. This applies to non-UCPS organizations that use school buildings for activities.

Please note that any UCPS facility can be used as an emergency shelter. If facilities are needed for an emergency, UCPS will override any/all facility-use agreements to comply with EMS.

Staff will continue to stay in close contact with law enforcement agencies to monitor weather and road conditions throughout the weekend.

As updates are announced, information will be posted on the UCPS website and Facebook and Twitter pages.
