Teachers and administrators from across Union County Public Schools attended the twelfth annual World View Symposium on "21st" Century Skills for the Global Economy," on October 14-15, 2009. This year's program was co-sponsored by the North Carolina State Board of Education., The Department of Public Instruction, the Center for International Understanding, and UNCC’s Schools of Education and Business (CIBER). Teachers and administrators were among the 500 educators and administrators who traveled to UNC-Chapel Hill for the day-and-a-half program and gained a greater understanding of global education and its relevance for the classroom. In addition to the symposium’s featured presentations on 21st century skills, participants took part in small group sessions on curriculum-based global education resources for a variety of subject areas and grade levels.

World View, which begins its twelfth year as a UNC-Chapel Hill public service program, helps educators better prepare their students for the small and interconnected world in which they live. It does so by producing symposiums, seminars, global education leadership programs, workshops, online courses, and international study visits. Union County Public School employees are a growing number of World View program graduates who will now take on the responsibility of increasing global perspectives in the classroom. World View’s next programs are back-to-back seminars on Latin America and North Carolina and East Asia in the 21st Century on March 23-25, 2010, on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. For more information, visit the World View website at www.unc.edu/world or call 919/962/9264.
