Greek Festival Celebration
Have you ever dreamed of having super-human powers, residing atop a beautiful mountain, living forever? During a study of Greek Mythology, AIG 5th graders "became" gods and goddesses. Although it's a long trip from Mount Olympus, Cronus, Zeus, Hera, Athena and many others graciously made the voyage to personally introduce themselves to all the fifth grade students.
Each Olympian explained important family ties, their Roman name, strengths and weaknesses, and words we use today that are derived from them. The audience was also entertained by the stories they retold - many of them ending in a lesson to be learned. Each god and goddess also brought their own personal symbol: Athena brought her owl, Demeter brought a basket of grains, Hera had peacock feathers to share. Zeus even carried his thunderbolt - thank goodness he didn't have to use it!
