Teachers across the county are getting their classrooms ready for next week’s start of the 2010-2011 school year. Schools on the traditional calendar will begin Wednesday, August 25, 2010, while year-round schools began July 25.

Rock Rest principal Wendy Gravely said the start of a new school year is always a very exciting time for teachers and administrators. “We have so many great things in place ready for our children when they come back,” she said. “I know they’re going to be excited.”

Linda Elam, a second-grade teacher at Rock Rest Elementary, came in a day early so she could have a good start on getting her classroom ready. “I look forward to getting my kids in for this upcoming school year. They’re my babies. I look forward to teaching, teaching, teaching.”

Gravely said this year, her staff used the summer months to plan for the upcoming year at her school. “We feel like this is going to be our best year ever because we are so prepared. We are ready for our children. We’re excited.”
