Hemby Bridge fourth and fifth graders are budding newscasters! Mrs. Shikany, Media Coordinator, along with fifth graders Christian and Je prepare for the first 2010-2011 broadcast. Students produce a brief news broadcast every morning, with help from Mrs. Shikany, Media Coordinator and Mrs. Mullis, Media Assistant. Students are responsible for preproduction, camera, anchor, and postproduction tasks. All classes take turns with serving as the flag team and with contributing school news to these announcements. Teachers select students for the broadcast team (fifth graders first semester, and fourth graders second semester) by the following qualities: responsibility for being on time, ability to work independently and courteously with others, and ability to read and write cue cards. Teams change throughout the year to enable many students to benefit from this opportunity.
Our newscast aims to provide important communications within our school family as well as to provide opportunities for students to solve problems and manage the production themselves. The future Oprah and Anderson Cooper may be here at Hemby Bridge!
