Schools Tools offers free school supplies to students

Jennifer Glahn, a school counselor from Rocky River Elementary School, takes advantage of School Tools, which offers free supplies for students at her school.

Children living in poverty have many obstacles to overcome; but not having school supplies should not be one of them.

Schools Tools, a partnership between Classroom Central, Communities In Schools and WSOC-TV, collects new school supplies for students who can not afford them in the Charlotte region.

Among the most-needed schools supplies are folders, pencils, glue sticks, pens, ruled paper, color pencils, markers, backpacks, highlighters and erasers.

During the 2009-10 academic year, Classroom Central distributed more than $4.48 milllion in FREE school supplies to more than 90,000 students in the Charlotte region.

Union County’s pick-up point for these school supplies is at the Central Services building at 400 N. Church St. The School Tools “store” will continue to be open until all the (free) school supplies are distributed.
