Key Club Makes The Holidays Brighter
Each year Key Club holds a Holiday Party for under privileged elementary school students. There are approximately 130 members in Key Club and the 2009 party had 32 children total in attendance; 16 boys and 16 girls, from three different schools including Waxhaw Elementary, Western Union Elementary, and Prospect Elementary. These elementary school students were recommended by their teachers and guidance counselors to participate in a day filled with games, crafts, food, and presents. When the children first arrived, they were assigned two or three Key Club members to show them around and to be their helpers for the event. When talking to many of the leaders and members of the Key Club, they stated that their favorite parts of the experience were seeing the kids faces light up whenever they got to open their presents and playing games with the other children. The Key Club Holiday Party provides children with toys and a fun-filled experience. It was an opportunity for Key Club to give back to our community and make the holidays a little brighter for these children.
