Sandy Ridge ASP Rocks with Safety

Children enrolled in Sandy Ridge After School Program celebrated National Fire Safety Week on Monday, October 4 by having hands-on experiences with Union County's Smoke House, Wesley Chapel Volunteer Fire Department and Union County Emergency Medical Services.

The children had an opportunity to see first-hand what type of equipment is in an ambulance and a fire truck. They talked with firefighters and were actually able to touch some of the tools that firefighters use on a daily basis. The children went into an EMS ambulance to talk with the paramedics and learn what actually happens during an emergency. The first and second graders were very excited to learn how to exit the Smoke House with a real fire alarm adding to the urgency of the moment.

Throughout the week the children will participate in discussing the Safety Map for each child's house and what should be done when an emergency actually occurs.
