Katie's Kidz visits Prospect to promote citizenship.
To coincide with the current Citizenship unit in Social Studies, the third graders here at Prospect enjoyed a presentation by Katie Greene on Friday, September 17th. Katie is a third grader who began her own charity when she was only six years old. She raises money to purchase gifts for children who are in the hospital over the holidays. Last year her goal was $8,000. She raised just over $11,000 and delivered presents to six area children's hospitals in Charlotte, Monroe, Asheville, Concord and Shelby.
After listening to her presentation, some of Prospect’s third graders decided they would like to help Katie by collecting bandages with character designs. This is a need at some of the area hospitals due to budget cuts. Now, children in the hospital receive only plain bandages. Katie mentioned that having bandages with characters on them can really help brighten a child’s day, especially when wearing one is a daily occurrence. Prospect third graders will be collecting the bandages through October.
