Warriors roll on!
The Warrior football team is off to a great start this season. Heading into their bye week, the Warriors hold a respectable 7-0 record after wins against Cuthbertson, Forest Hills, North Gaston, Hunter Huss, Ardrey Kell, Olympic, and Parkwood. The Warriors have outscored their opponents 267-86, including three shutouts against Forest Hills and North Gaston, and Parkwood.
Many first year varsity players are making huge impacts. Junior quarterback Drew Podrebarac, who is replacing former 4-year starter and current Duke Blue Devil Anthony Boone, has responded well by throwing for 958 yards and 9 touchdowns while completing 61% of his passes. Another newcomer making a surprising impact is freshman wide receiver Collin Lisa. Lisa, one of Podrebarac’s favorite targets, has amassed 18 receptions for 290 yards and 3 touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Jake Yurek is also off to a solid start. Yurek leads the team in all receiving categories with 20 receptions, 304 yards and 4 touchdowns.
The Warriors have two junior running-backs who form a formidable tandem. After breaking his arm in 2009, Brandon Little has returned without missing a step. Little averages over nine yards per carry with a team leading 481 yards rushing. Connor Gorham, the other half of this dynamic duo, leads the team with 7 rushing touchdowns.
The Warriors have had a stellar start to the season. If they continue playing this well, the Warriors could be heading for the greatest season in school history.
