Weber Recognized for Domestic Violence Prevention
CHS Sophomore Jessica Weber was nominated for recognition by the Violence Prevention Task Force of Union County. She went on to win the award for the student in Union County who has had the greatest impact on Domestic Violence Prevention in the last year. She was recognized at a luncheon October 14, 2010, at the Union County Agricultural Center.
Jessica has volunteered at The Tree House Children's Advocacy Center in Monroe and arranged a toy drive that collected three carloads of toys for abused and neglected children in Union County.
She also organized the SAVE Club at CHS (Students Against Violent Everywhere). Ms. Ashley Wood and Ms. Leah Ross are the advisors for SAVE. SAVE aims to end violence in all areas including bullying, fights, teen violence, and domestic violence.
Jessica has written to area organizations such as judges, law enforcement, and social services to speak at club meetings and the club is currently planning a shared event with Delta Sigma Pi at Wingate University for a Light the Night Against Violence.
Ms. Ross reflected, "Jessica saw a need in our school and community and with focused intent and a heart full of compassion she has stepped forward to initiate a means to educate us all on how we can be a part of the solution to violence in our world."
We are very proud of you, Jessica!
