ROTC Cadets Perform Well at UNCC Drill Meet
On Saturday, October 16th, the Air Force Junior ROTC Drill Teams went to the Annual 49er Classic Drill Competition at UNCC. A total of twenty schools were present from North and South Carolina. Piedmont's cadets brought home a total of five trophies out of twelve events. Instructors for the Junior ROTC Drill Teams are Captain Louis Werder and MSgt. Heinz Schweinsberger.
In the Element Fancy Unarmed event, Piedmont took 2nd Place. The team consisted of Gisela Arellano, Justin Crump, Justin Doss, Chris Garcia, Josh Hamilton, Adam Keziah, Ryan Love, Michael O'Neal. James Floyd placed second in the Unarmed Knockout Round against over 200 cadets from the other schools. Tommy Best took Second Place in the Individual Regulation Unarmed Event, and Justin Crump took Third Place in the Individual Fancy Armed Competition.
In response to the great performance at the UNCC Drill Meet, C-1st Lieutenant Justin Crump stated, "We did much better than expected. We had competed in another meet against Parkwood on October 11th and did not perform up to our abilities. So we worked really hard in the following days to prepare for this meet. It paid off and winning the trophies was exciting!"
In the Flight Fancy Unarmed competition, Third Place was taken by Alekxandr Kartarkov, Blake Baker, Daniel Contreras, Carl Dorvil, Ronald Hedd, Jessica Marlow, Isaac Nelson, Liizeth Ordonez, Viviana Pulgarin, Eddie Rivera, Clayton Shepherd, Laura Tadeo, and Michael Williams.
The cadets worked very hard to prepare for this event. Congratulations to all of them!
