Soccer Team Scores With Community Service

Coach Nelson Garner and the CHS Cavalier Varsity Soccer Team unload pumpkins for the Waxhaw United Methodist Church.

The Varsity Soccer team, along with their coach, Nelson Garner, participated in a community service project at Waxhaw United Methodist Church on October 12, 2010. The church holds a pumpkin sale every year with over a thousand pumpkins that are shipped in from New Mexico. The team heard that many of the church members who could help unload the pumpkins worked during the day and so they offered to help. “Our team came in and formed a big assembly line passing the pumpkins from the truck to the grass where they are sold. It was a great experience for the guys to give back to their community which is so supportive of them,” Coach Garner reflected. Senior player Dannon Fields noted, “Helping lift pumpkins not only helped us bond as a team but it also helped out the church that needed help moving pumpkins. It was a great team bonding experience and for a great cause. I certainly enjoyed every minute of helping out.”
