Fourth graders tour local sculptor's property

Mr. Risser explains one of his sculptures to students.

BHESA fourth graders had the opportunity to visit Tom Risser's property in Waxhaw on October 22. Mr. Risser gave the students a tour of his property and explained the inspiration for many of his sculptures. He shared with students the types of materials he uses as well as where he obtained some of the materials for his pieces.

The students were fascinated by the size and sheer numbers of sculptures. Students were thrilled that this was a "hands-on" experience, delighting in being able to climb on the sculptures, and to experience the "bowl" at the end of the visit.

Mr. Risser's goal is to inspire students to create artwork that is meaningful and that will inspire other students in the future. Mr. Risser is passionate about working with students and is excited about integrating arts by taking actual student artwork and recreating it into a three-dimensional form.

Students and staff are anxious to see Mr. Risser's creations at Benton Heights this year.
