Marvin Goes Math Crazy!
Addie from Ms. Little’s class was the winner of the first Marvin estimating contest. She had the closest guess for the weight of the pumpkin, missing by less than 40 grams. The actual weight of the pumpkin was 10.09 kg. As the winner, Addie gets to take the pumpkin home where she said she plans to carve it. Congratulations, Addie. The estimating contest for November will involve guessing the number of kernels of Indian corn that will be displayed in the cafeteria. The winner will get candy corn as a reward.
October also marked the beginning of monthly math problems. A problem was posted for kindergarten and 1st grade, one for 2nd and 3rd grade, and another for 4th and 5th grade. The names of those who successfully solved the problems are displayed on a wall of honor in the cafeteria. A Hershey bar was awarded to students whose names were drawn from those who successfully solved the problems.
Estimates for the November estimating contest and answers to the problem of the month can be turned into your class room teacher by November 16th.
