Kindergarten Show Their Pride at WHS Football Game
Our kindergarten classes went to the Weddington High School football game against Porter Ridge High School on October 22nd. They had a special reason to attend since they were there to say the Pledge of Allegiance and give a "high five" to the team as they came onto the field. The students went onto the field with their teachers and Mr. Hoover and waited for the big event. The band played, the pledge started, and then the football team ran through the huge WHS helmet and "high fived" our kindergartners. Unfortunately, WHS lost to Porter Ridge, but many kindergartners stayed to watch the hard fought game.
It was also a night to raise awareness for breast cancer and the cheerleaders, spectators, and WHS staff were wearing pink. There was also a special ceremonial release of 7 butterflies by the cheerleaders to remember a young child who lost her battle with cancer from WDES last year. And, last but not least, it was also the night that WHS football team and band were the "Band of the Week" on WCNC news.
