Dollar$ for Denni$
After visiting the Island of Mfangano located in Lake Victoria during the summers of 2007 and 2009, I have developed such a heart for these people and the school that is located there. Gethsemane Garden Christian Centre (GGCC) is a boarding school that was founded by a local couple who recognized the need to care for orphans and to educate them in hopes of saving future generations. Naphtaly Mattah, the founder, has seen this school grow over the years to a current 400 students. Most of these students are orphans or semi orphans who, without sponsors help, could not afford to attend school.
Denis Ouma is a student of GGCC that is currently unsponsored. One of ten children, he was forced to sleep on the floor of a rundown hut. With his single mother only making one dollar a day, she was unable to afford to send the children to school. Although Denis is 13, he is in only in third grade because of his late entry. GGCC will provide Denis with clothes, food, a bed, and an education; all of these he would not have without our sponsorship.
Weddington High School now has the opportunity to help Denis and the Mfangano community. Our goal for this project is $750 and DECA members will be collecting money during all lunches through Friday November 5th. For more information on Denis or the school visit GGCCkenya.com or come by the table at lunch.
