Theatre Classes Earn Multiple Awards

The Porter Ridge High School Theatre Students once again stole the show at the Regional NC Theatre Conference and will be presenting a play at the State NC Theatre Conference.

Over the Halloween weekend, Mrs. Jessica Briggs, Theatre teacher, took two groups of students to Southern Pines to attend and perform at The North Carolina Theatre Conference. They competed with many others schools and plays. The students did a wonderful job performing and representing Porter Ridge High School.

Mrs. Briggs said, "Our success was attending the conference and getting to watch many wonderful student actors. At the awards ceremony Porter Ridge Theatre got to experience an even greater success!"

The following awards were given to Porter Ridge:

  • Arielle Ross received an Excellence in Acting for a female actor.
  • The play "A Piece of My Heart" received an Outstanding Achievement in Ensemble Acting.
  • Jessica Briggs received an Excellence in Directing.
  • Porter Ridge High School received a Distinguished Play Award for "A Piece of My Heart".
  • "A Piece of My Heart" received an Excellence in Production Design.
  • "Mirrors" received an Excellence in Opening Sequence.

This exciting news means that the cast of "A Piece of My Heart" is passed on to compete in the State Competition at Greensboro College on November 18th &19. This is a great accomplishment for the students.
