Tractor Safety Is Key!

Parkwood FFA members win awards at the Rocky River FFA Federation Tractor/Truck Safety Competition.

On November 1, 2010, students from Parkwood participated in the Rocky River FFA Federation Tractor/Truck Driving Safety Contest at Forest Hills High School. During the contest, students learned the importance of tractor safety, backing a tractor with a trailer attached, and driving a tractor and a truck.

The students were judged on safety, as well as being able to drive the tractor and trailer through an obstacle course made out of cones and painted lines, backing down an alley and into a shed. Students were allowed to drive hydrostatic tractors using the latest technologically enhanced equipment. The tractors were provided by Brooks Tractor and Equipment Sales and the truck was donated by Hendricks Chevrolet. The truck driving is similar to driving the tractor without the trailer.

Parkwood's students received the following honors: Chance Brantley won 1st place Individual High Score and the 1st place Team Senior Division Tractor Driving award went to Josh Bost, Richie Bowers, Chance Brantley, and Anthony Deese. The 3rd place Team Junior Division Tractor Driving award went to Cody Kiker, Andrew Presson, Dakota Craig, and Blake Almond. Truck Driving participants were Clay Medlin and Richie Bowers. Stephanie Bailey participated in the female division.  They were accompanied by their faculty sponsors, Mitch Bryant and Sam Robinson.
