FHHS community project says "art rocks!"
Forest Hills High School art students did a community service project for the new Jesse Helms Nursing Center at CMC-Union last semester. Students took several large patio stones and painted them with different famous paintings from well-known artists.
The stones were then placed in an outdoor courtyard at the Nursing Center making an Art Rock Garden. The residents and staff loved the rocks and the students enjoyed making the community donation.
The Honors Art Three and Honors Art Four students wanted to create a project that would brighten up the days for the residents of the Nursing Center.
Students researched different artists that they found interesting and then recreated one of the artist’s masterpieces on a large stone. This was a difficult task because the rocks are of all different sizes and shapes, not to mention the bumpy and uneven surface qualities.
These obstacles were overcome with huge success though and the Rock Garden can be enjoyed by everyone. This project was facilitated by art teacher, Alicia Swackhamer.
