Fourth Graders Travel to Black Mountain, N.C.

The 4th grade students had a blast at The YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain, North Carolina on October 26th! The staff worried that the weather might put a damper on the trip, but as it turned out … a little rain only added to the fun as the students looked for salamanders, insects, and crayfish in the mountain streams!

Students participated in three different outdoor experimental programs: Predator-Prey simulation game, Mountain Stream Discovery, and Nature Discovery Hike. While engaged in those activities, they were able to use what they had learned about the North Carolina Mountain Region, rocks and minerals, and animal adaptations from Science and Social Studies focuses this year! Students experienced North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains in a unique, fun, hands-on, and instructionally rich environment, all the while enjoying the beautiful landscape and a backdrop of colorful fall leaves.
