Red Ribbon Week

This year Waxhaw Elementary celebrated Red Ribbon Week during the week of October 25th.  Our theme this year was “Keep on Track for Success by Living Drug-Free.”

Students signed pledge cards promising to take care of their bodies and to stay away from dangerous drugs like tobacco and alcohol.  Afterwards they received red ribbons to wear.

Students participated in various activities during the week, including dress-up days relating to different drug-free themes.

The highlight of our week was our Red Ribbon Assembly with guest speaker, Drug Enforcement Agent Chris Morgan.  Agent Morgan explained the origin of this special week when students across the nation pledge to remain drug-free.  Dana Sullivan, a fourth grade teacher, said that “Agent Morgan was very informative and put it on a level that students could easily understand.  He really kept their attention.”

During the assembly our mascot, Sir Fur, took the pledge with students and signed his pledge card before receiving his red ribbon to wear.
